Singodia holds his nerve to steer Hawkley to win

Hawkley v Grayswood: HAWKLEY won the toss and put visitors Grayswood in to bat.

The visitors started briskly and the openers seemed well set until McIntyre was bowled by Hudson.

Thereafter the scoring slowed and it was not until the 15th over that the score reached 50, whereupon visiting captain White was out leg before wicket to Liam Lloyd, who finished with the very creditable figures of 1-14 off eight overs.

Rory Evans replaced Lloyd and bowled a similarly frugal spell, forcing the Grayswood batsmen to go after Aaron Stewart’s off spin in search of runs.

Liam Lloyd held two excellent catches off Stewart, who also took a stinging return catch on his way to a five-wicket haul.

Hawkley skipper Hallam Brown bowled a single over which yielded two wickets without conceding a run as Grayswood’s innings finished on 113 all out.

Hawkley opening batsmen Brown and Hiscock began slowly against accurate bowling from Grayswood’s Hind and Kent and reached 30 before Hiscock was bowled.

Three Hawkley wickets fell quickly before Aaron Stewart scored a whirlwind 32, supported by Lloyd and Evans who both played patiently to take Hawkley to three figures.

Hawkley’s ninth wicket fell with eight runs needed, setting up a nail-biting finish which saw Hawkley’s final pair surrounded by close fielders. However, Magan Singodia held his nerve to steer the home team to victory by one wicket.
