AN EX-SERVICEMAN who grew up and went to school in Petersfield has released a song in support of a Forces charity.
Alex Askew and his wife Lisa have released the song Just Another Week, performed by the Shadey Scandals, in support of the charity Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA), the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.
It is sung by Alex with Lisa providing backing vocals and comes following the charity’s support for Alex after he left the Forces in 2009.
He was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following a tour in Afghanistan.
Alex (34) said: “We wanted to spread the message of the charity through a medium they haven’t had an opportunity to do before.
“This is a song that we thought was really relevant to a charity like this.”
When Alex left the Royal Air Force (RAF), he and Lisa spent three years staying with friends and family before they were allocated housing.
When they were housed, the property was in a state of disrepair and they turned to the charity for help.
The charity helped the couple to get back on their feet and they now have a two-year-old daughter.
He added: “The song was written by myself during the tough times we went through. It was a load off our shoulders.
“We realised what a great job these charities do and we want to spread the word so people know where to go if they are in a similar situation.
"We managed to raise the funds to get it (the song) professionally produced, published and released and we are now promoting to get the song noticed.”
The song can be downloaded from all major online music stores or visit www.shadeyscandalsband.com/releases for more details of where to buy it.
